49th parallel: In the early days of World War II, a German U-boat is sunk in Canada's Hudson Bay. Hoping to evade capture, a small band of German soldiers led by commanding officer Lieutenant Hirth (Eric Portman) attempts to cross the border into the United States, which has not yet entered the war and is officially neutral. Along the way, the German soldiers encounter brave men such as French-Canadian fur trapper Johnnie (Laurence Olivier) and soldier Andy Brock (Raymond Massey).

Secret mission: During World War II, four British intelligence men are sent to assess the strength of German defences in occupied France. For this they require forged papers, but these are only the beginning of their worries. They must obtain vital information from the Resistance and escape the Nazis sent to hunt them.

We dive at dawn: British submarine 'Sea Tiger' docks after a long voyage and the crew are given a week's leave. Each heads off for his chosen destination, however, all their arrangements are cancelled as they are recalled to their sub and instructed to find and destroy a Nazi battle ship--The Brandenburg.

The Life and death of Colonel Blimp: During World War II, Clive Candy encounters a now captured German officer whom he befriended during the Boer War; the two are forced to either aid or betray each other.

Brief encounter: Laura Jesson accidentally meets a man, Dr Alex Harvey, at a railway station. As their acquaintance grows, so does their love for each other despite both being married with children. On the brink of an affair and desperately in love, the two must make a choice that may part them forever.

Black narcissus: A group of Anglican nuns, led by Sister Clodagh (Deborah Kerr), are sent to a mountain in the Himalayas. The climate in the region is hostile and the nuns are housed in an odd old palace. They work to establish a school and a hospital, but slowly their focus shifts. Sister Ruth (Kathleen Byron) falls for a government worker, Mr Dean (David Farrar) and begins to question her vow of celibacy. As Sister Ruth obsesses over Mr Dean, Sister Clodagh becomes immersed in her own memories of love.
