1000 Books Before School

Baby & mum readingDo you have a child aged 0-5? Join the 1000 Books Before School program to prepare your child for school!

By reading with your child every day you can:

  • develop their literacy skills
  • encourage a daily reading habit
  • instil a love of learning
  • engage with language
  • help them understand themselves and others

Children who enter school with early skills, such as a basic knowledge of math and reading, are more likely than their peers to experience later academic success, attain higher levels of education, and secure employment.

How does it work?

  1. Register your child/family for the 1000 Books Before School program

Registration is open to members of the City of Parramatta Libraries

  1. Log the books that you have read
  2. Each time you reach a milestone, bring your email confirmation in to any Parramatta Library to receive your reward
  3. The program finishes once your child has read 1000 books, or when they turn six.

What books count?

Every book your child reads or listens to counts! Choose books from home, the library, e-books online, books borrowed at storytime, day care, playgroup or shared by family and friends.
